QFD: Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted. – Aldo Huxley
?FD: What is the difference between qualitative data and quantitative data
Objective: Student will know and be able to perform the steps used in the scientific method by successfully completing Lab 1
1) LAB 1 Holey Safari
( Notes and safety reminders)
1) You will determine your own experiment and choose the independent variable which may include: hot vs cold water, meat tenderizer, syrup, salt or anything else found in lab station
2) Make sure the beakers are clean before you begin and make sure you wash them thoroughly at the end of the experiment
3) If you are using a hot plate, you must wear goggles, and make sure you only turn it up to medium, once you see bubbles USE TONGS TO REMOVE THE BEAKER!
4) You will be given 2 capsules that will be placed into the beakers at the exact same time, one of you will need to time (watch/cell Phone) how long it takes for each of the capsules to completely open
5) Use between 125 and 150 ml of water in each beaker but try to make sure they are close to equal in both beakers
6) Complete the scientific method flow chart and fill it out completely (homework if not completed in class) Due Thursday
7) Make sure you are only texting for 1 variable****
8) Be responsible and safe

?FD: Was the lab a success? Do understand the difference between the control and experimental groups?
Objective: Student will know and be able to perform the steps used in the scientific method by successfully completing Lab 1 and the method for writing and summarizing a lab
