QUIZ
1 Carbon dioxide is formed by __________.

A respiration
B photosynthesis
C carbon fixation
D All of the above

2 Increased global temperatures have been attributed to increased level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. All of the following lead to an increased amount of carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere except

A combustion of fossil fuels.
B photosynthesis by phytoplankton.
C deforestation of tropical rain forests.
D volcanic activity.

3 Which of the following is not a reservoir in the carbon cycle?

A atmosphere
B ocean
C biosphere
D asthenosphere

4 The majority of CO2 that is released from the biosphere is released through ________.

A transpiration
B photosynthesis
C respiration
D burning fossil fuels

5 The flow of carbon through the carbon cycle occurs primarily through

A evaporation and precipitation.
B photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
C predator–prey relationships.
D carbon fixation and bacteria decomposition.

6 During the carbon cycle, which of the following carbon–based molecules are released into the atmosphere through respiration?

A CO2 (carbon dioxide)
B C6H12O6 (glucose)
C CH4 (methane)
D CO (carbon monoxide)

7 In the carbon cycle, which of the following carbon–based molecules are found in the structures of living things, having been incorporated into the biosphere through photosynthesis?

A CO (carbon monoxide)
B C6H12O6 (glucose)
C CH4 (methane)
D CO2 (carbon dioxide)

8 In plants and animals, carbon cycles through molecular processes that store and release energy in various molecular forms. In these plant and animal molecular processes, carbon is found in

A carbon dioxide and oxygen molecules.
B sugar molecules and water molecules.
C carbon dioxide and sugar molecules.
D sugar molecules and oxygen molecules.

9 The carbon that is taken in by an organism during photosynthesis is then converted into which type of substance?

A glucose
B protein
C lipids
D genetic material

10 During cellular respiration, carbon is attained through which of the following processes?

A breathing
B feeding
C cellular mitosis
D metabolism

QFD: “The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and most beautiful of all.” ― Walt Disney Company ( Mulan)
?FD: what is the formula for photosynthesis? respiration?
Objective: 7. Each element on Earth moves among reservoirs, which exist in the solid earth, in oceans, in the atmosphere, and within and among organisms as part of biogeochemical cycles. As a basis for understanding this concept:
7a. Students know the carbon cycle of photosynthesis and respiration and the nitrogen cycle.
1) carbon cycle notes
2) video clips paragraphs
3) perfect paragraph using the terms: photosynthesis, carbon dioxide, oxygen
Watch the video and comment on what you learned (25EC)

example:Carbon is the building blocks of all life on Earth. Carbon dioxide is used by plants to make sugar and oxygen. Carbon is stored in the soil and rocks and creates fossil fuels.

example:Unequal heating of Earth causes weather patterns and climate. Eddys transfer heat through currents. Most hurricanes start in the Atlantic ocean and move toward the gulf of Mexico causing extreme weather.

?FD: Are you in the right classroom? 216 Mr. Borden write down http://www.mrborden.wordpress.com in your notebook
Objective: Students will know and be able to understand the rules and procedures of this class and semester
1) Rules and Class Expectations
2) 2nd semester description
3) Code of conduct and behavior contracts

Responses

  1. Carbon is the building blocks of lie.Carbon dioxide is used by plants to make sugar and oxygen.Everything uses carbon dioxide. All living things breathe in carbon dioxide and we breathe out carbon dioxide.Carbon is store in the earth and living things. Carbon dioxide is stored in soil and rocks and creates fossil fuels.

    • Awesome job , Mary Jane. You definitly understand and will get 25 pts ec. Thank you for your comment

  2. Unequal heating of earth causes weather patterns. Nutriance comes from eddys transfer heat through currents. Most hurricanes start in the alantic ocean and move to the golf of mexico. It causes extreme weather.
